The Benefits of Dental Implants

When a patient is missing a tooth or a series of teeth often our dentists may recommend dental implants as a preferred treatment plan. In many situations there may be alternative treatment options, such as bridges, dentures, or partial dentures, yet none of these dental treatments have the benefits that dental implants do.

You may be wondering what makes dental implants our recommended treatment method when treating missing or broken teeth as opposed to these other treatment options. We have listed just a few of the benefits of dental implants below to help you understand their advantages.

Maintain Bone Structure and Tooth Health

First and foremost, dental implants are a healthier option for your overall bone structure. Empty spaces in your mouth due to missing teeth allow the bone to slowly deteriorate, causing additional health problems down the road. Dental implants maintain the space left by broken or missing teeth, allowing your jaw to stay strong and healthy as you age.  Additionally, they do not require any filing or shaping of adjacent teeth since they have their own stabilization system.

No Special Care Required

Dental implants are the closest thing you can get to real, natural teeth. They don’t need to be removed each night, they don’t fall out, and they don’t require any special products to care for them. You simply brush and floss them as you do your natural teeth.

They are Long Lasting

Typically bridges have to be replaced every 5-10 years, depending on how well they are cared for. Dentures may need to be readjusted or completely replaced as they wear down with age. Dental implants, however, can last the rest of your life if they are properly cared for, eliminating the need for repeat dental work and additional expenses down the road.

Enjoy All Your Favorite Foods

Dental implants will not loosen or fall out if you chew something hard or crunchy, as opposed to dentures which may not sustain tough foods as well. As long as you care for your implants the same way you would your natural teeth, you should be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods without any interruption in your lifestyle.

Conclusion

Dental implants are typically our preferred treatment option because they are healthiest for our patients and require essentially no lifestyle modifications. What questions do you have about dental implants? Has your dentist recommended that you consider implants? If so, what are your hesitations about them?

While we age, it’s important to keep our mouth and jaw as healthy as possible. Dental implants are often preferred because they can help enhance oral health. They also last a long time and enable to eat all the foods that you normally enjoy. They stay firmly rooted in your mouth no matter what you eat.
