Are There Any Natural Teeth Whitening Foods or Drinks?

If you’re longing for a whiter, brighter smile, you may be surprised to learn that there are actually certain foods and drinks that can help you achieve one. Here at River Run Dental, we recommend the following foods and drinks to patients who are looking for a natural way to whiten their teeth.

Strawberries

While they are bright in color, they are ideal for whitening your teeth because of their malic acid. Consider mashing up strawberries and rubbing them on your teeth. Once five minutes has passed, rinse with water and brush and floss as you normally would.

Oranges and Pineapples

Oranges and pineapples are examples of tart fruits, which may produce more saliva in your mouth. Since saliva can naturally wash your teeth clean, these fruits are great for teeth whitening. Be cautious of lemons, however, as they are loaded with acid, which can harm your teeth.

Milk and Cheese

Dairy products like milk and cheese are full of lactic acid, which may protect your teeth from cavities. If your goal is to whiten your teeth, however, opt for hard cheeses such as gorgonzola, Parmigiano Reggiano, and aged cheddar. They remove food particles well and can help whiten your smile as a result.

Celery

Celery is low in calories and high in nutrients and fiber. It has been proven to keep gum tissue healthy and teeth white.
