Best Foods to Eat to Avoid Cavities

You probably know that brushing and flossing your teeth on a regular basis and visiting the dentist every six months for regular checkups can help you prevent cavities. However, you may not be aware that there are certain foods you can eat to avoid tooth decay.

Here at River Run Dental, we recommend you incorporate these foods into your diet if you’d like to stop the plaque buildup that can lead to cavities.

Cheese

Research has found that cheese prevent the formation of cavities and promote optimal oral health. It features high pH levels which leads to more saliva and harder enamel.

Apples

An apple a day may be able to keep cavities away. Although apples are sugary, they can stimulate saliva flow and reduce the level of bacteria in your mouth so cavities don’t form.

Green and Black Tea

After having a sugary treat, reach for some green or black tea. These teas can prevent the buildup of plaque and bacteria. To reap the benefits of green and black tea, do not drink them with milk, cream, or sweeteners.

Raisins

Recent studies have discovered that raisins are good for cavity prevention because they contain polyphenols and flavonoids, which may fight oral bacteria that causes cavities.

Unsweetened Yogurt/Kefir

Plan kefir or yogurt is packed with fiber which will keep sugar from sticking in your mouth and reduce the risk of cavities.
