Does Natural Mouthwash Work – Homemade Remedies

Mouthwash is an important liquid that you should try to incorporate into your oral hygiene routine on a regular basis. When paired with brushing and flossing, rinsing with mouthwash can improve your oral health and the appearance of your smile.

You may be surprised to learn that mouthwash can reduce the growth of plaque in your mouth, lower your chances of developing gum disease, and prevent cavities. In addition, it can add beauty to your smile and freshen your breath.

There are a number of natural mouthwash recipes that may leave you with excellent results. Here’s one we recommend you try:

Combine 2 teaspoons of baking soda, ½ cup of filtered or distilled water, 2 drops of essential tea tree oil, and 2 drops of essential peppermint oil in a small mason jar. Since the baking soda will settle to the bottom of the jar, you’ll need to shake the jar every time you want to use the mouthwash. Swish 2 to 3 teaspoons of it in your mouth for a few minutes and refrain from swallowing it.

Another great natural mouthwash recipe consists of ginger root, peppermint, turmeric, and cinnamon. To make it, combine all the ingredients to about 2 cups of water in a pot on the stove. Bring to a low simmer and allow the simmer to go on for about a half hour. Strain the mixture and place in a small mason jar. Let cool and store in the fridge.

If you’re not the DIY type, you can search the internet for natural mouthwashes that are free of chemicals and harmful ingredients. There are many options available so be sure to read the reviews before making a purchase.
