How to Clean Invisalign Aligners

Invisalign aligners have made straightening teeth and achieving healthy smiles comfortable and convenient. With Invisalign, you don’t have to worry about brackets and wires poking your mouth and can enjoy the comfort of the clear, plastic aligners.

SInce you’ll be able to remove the aligners for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, you’ll be able to care for your teeth as you always have and continue eating your favorite foods.

Fortunately, taking care of Invisalign aligners is a breeze. You’ll need to get into the habit of rinsing your aligners whenever you take them out of your mouth. This is because plaque and dry saliva can cause foul smelling bacteria.

We encourage you to soak your aligners at least once a day. You can use denture cleaner, retainer brite, or the Invisalign cleaning crystals to do so. After you soak them, clean them with an anti-bacterial soft soap. This will keep them fresh, clear, and free from bacteria.

Before you put your aligners back in your mouth, be sure to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth. If you fail to do so, damaging particles can trap between your teeth and aligners and rise your risk for dental complications down the road.

In addition to soaking your aligners, we recommend brushing them gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Refrain from vigorously brushing them as this may scratch your aligners and leave etchings which are visible.

As long as you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day and take excellent care of them, you’ll be able to achieve the smile of your dreams. In most cases, patients complete their Invisalign treatment plans after a year or less.
