Is 13 Too Young to Have Teeth Professionally Whitened?

We all want beautiful white smiles. That’s where professional teeth whitening comes in. Zoom professional teeth whitening can allow us to achieve teeth that are up to eight shades whiter in an hour. It’s a safe, non-invasive hydrogen peroxide whitening treatment that we perform right here in our spa-like dental office.

During a Zoom treatment, we begin by applying a strong hydrogen peroxide gel to the teeth. Then, we use a special UV light to aid the peroxide with the whitening process. At the end of the treatment, patients can enjoy long-lasting results.

Recently, we’ve had some parents ask us whether they can schedule a professional teeth whitening treatment for their child. We suggest that all children under the age of 14 refrain from teeth whitening. This is the suggestion of the American Academy of General Dentistry.

Once your child turn 14, they are welcome to undergo professional teeth whitening as long as their dentist approves. This is good news for many parents as the teenage years are typically the time that most children wish to improve their smiles and feel more confident in their own skin.

Here at River Run Dental, we see many teens who get their teeth professionally whitened through Zoom before a homecoming dance, prom, school play, birthday party, or graduation. Having a beautiful bright smiles makes them look and feel great about themselves during some of the most special occasions in their lives.

We encourage our teen teeth whitening patients to maintain their results by brushing and flossing their teeth every day and visiting our office every six months or so for a dental exam and cleaning.
